History

AshaKiran, which translates to A Ray of Hope, is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) volunteer organization headquartered in Huntsville, Alabama.  Established in 2006, AshaKiran is dedicated to serving South Asians and other foreign born individuals dealing with crises, such as domestic violence/abuse, by providing specific culturally-sensitive support services within our emergency shelter, our 24 HR crisis AshaLine "Hope-Line" as well as our training workshops and presentations for other shelters and first responders throughout Alabama.

Education

In 2007 four educational seminars were conducted:

  1. Adolescents and Young Adults .
  2. Middle School age Adolescents.
  3. Parents of School and College Age Young Adults.
  4. Health Seminar

  • Collecting House hold Items

Empowerment

Two Endowments named (1) Empowering Light and (2) Guiding Light were set up to assist in "reestablishing" lives: such as reeducating, retraining people of South Asian and other foreign born origin that have experienced crisis situations.
